Visit Brighton
DRINKProper Pubs: Hove; I would definitely check out; The Lion & Lobster, don't just walk in and think the downstairs is all it is, its massive inside but little bits here and there and 2 smoking internal terraces and is open till 02:00. The Beas Mouth, an eclectic dirty place with loads of atmosphere. The Farm is a cute little pub. Check out Hove Place, its horrid inside, but on a summers night the garden is packed and very vibrant, it's a bit "I'm late 20s, early 30's, middle class and have a mortgage" though (we went there when you came down!). Kemptown; check out The Sidewinder, great place and ok garden, you could spend all afternoon in here. Go to The Rock, only for one drink, and ask to go downstairs to drop the empty bottle down the well, theres a bonkers well down there.. dunno why, then leave its not that great. Town; The Cricketers is a proper old school pub in the thick of it, young crowd and very loud at the weekends. The Wagon & Horses is great place, the whole area is very busy on warm nights, there are a few pubs close by. If on the beach The Fortune of War is a great pub and not too ridiculous in price. Gemini used to be the place of choice on the beach on hot summer days, but it was expensive, its currently going through a refurb so should be done by summer. The Royal Pavilion Tavern (known as the Pav Tav) attracts a younger crowd these days and is quite old school, also its right next to Suga Qube for when you want to change gear! Clubbing: Pre club Bars; Suga Qube is a must on a Friday or Saturday night, from 10 ish onwards, open till its not busy, which can be 1 or 4 in the morning. The music is always tops and the people are happy and chatty, generally half the bar dance the night away. Above Audio is a great place to go, very relaxed and has inside and out. When finished you can go downstairs to Audio. Friday nights at Madame Geishas is tops, the bloke toilets stink like a bitch, if you carry on going up then there is a small private bar and smoking area. But you are now entering into places where out of town people go and they can be nobs. Clubs; Audio, The Brighton Coalition & Tube (recently changed from The Funky Buddha Lounge) (maybe check out Digital too but I'm not that keen on it but is a pretty decent club). Simple. Depending on the night, as it can be anything from Hip Hop to Minimal House. If you want an old school disco check out The Funky Fish. For a bit of history check out Concord (real name C2), its a long walk towards the marina or a taxi. Its the place where people like the Foo Fighters play, its got that reputation where even huge bands want to play and for some reason people think its ace.
FOODThere is a cheese shop in Hove called La Cave a Fromage which is bloody lovely (and expensive). For proper grub, its a bit subjective and in all honesty there are 100s if not 1000s of places to try. However, I would definitely go to the boardwalk down at the marina on a nice day and sit outside for lunch. There are about 10 restaurants all next to each other, if you are there till late Karma is a bar that stays open till very late, its ok, I wouldn't make a special trip to go there. Maybe go Bowling at the marina and then go for food.
FAMILY FUN DAYS OUT Middle Farm is a lunch / afternoon out, its a small farm about 20 mins by car out of Brighton. It's ace, there is a food thing there but its all way over priced, and there is a petting zoo, with the most amazing chickens.. they look Rastafarian! But the really cool bit is the cider room there, they have like 100 different barrels that you can sample (they give you a glass) and you can buy by the pint (you can buy a cheap container there). They have sheep races! Whislt out near Middle Farm, its worth checking out Longman, its only a bloke drawn on the side of the hill, but hey. Further down the road from here is the Tiger Inn, its ann amazingly old pub that servers great pub lunchs, have the ploughmans! Ok, back in Brighton ish, the pubs a bit shit but the view is definitely worth going for; Devils Dyke. You can get a cheesy open top bus to go up there. Its about 5 minutes by car out of Brighton, directly North. Go Kayaking in the sea, theres shop right on the beach and they rent them to you for an hour. No need to book. http://www.thebrightonwatersports.co.uk Rye is an amazing place, theres a pub there that is 1000 years old or something like that. Bit old, my dad would like this. Arundel is quite interesting, its a very small town about 30 mins away, Arundel Castle is quite cool, they have real jousting events and try to make it old school with pigs on spits (which you can buy for a snack). There is a pub called The Black Rabbit there next to a river that looks back onto the castle. Foods not that great there so I'd eat in the town or just snack. Half way there there from the castle is a small lake where people go to feed the ducks, quite mad but fun. If you want to be all nobby and go to the Polo, The Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup finals are on the 17th of July, its quite cheap to get into the grounds and you can take a picnic if you like or buy burgers and beer there (or Champagne if you really feel flush).
Why not take a helicopter ride over Brighton? |
